- Ponca City is a city located in north central Oklahoma, 18 miles south of the Kansas border and 15 miles east of Interstate 35. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 29,948. Ponca City is the most populous town in Kay County. The city is near the Salt Fork of the Arkansas River and Kaw Lake which provide recreational opportunities.

The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 2.95.
In the city the population is spread out with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 90.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.8 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $31,406, and the median income for a family is $39,846. Males have a median income of $32,283 versus $20,098 for females.
