The Village of Fairport, on the New York State Barge Canal, also known as the Erie Canal, is in the Town of Perinton.

The racial makeup of the village is 96.99% White, 0.73% African American, 0.12% Native American, 1.03% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 0.92% from two or more races. 1.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,369 households out of which 33.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.4% are married couples living together, 10.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% are non-families. 27.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.96.

In the village the population is spread out with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 31.8% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 92.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.1 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $53,375, and the median income for a family is $65,980. Males have a median income of $50,094 versus $30,431 for females. The per capita income for the village is $29,390. 3.3% of the population and 1.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.2% of those under the age of 18 and 5.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The Village of Fairport owns and operates a municipal power corporation called Fairport Electric. Incorporated in 1901, Fairport Electric provides electric power to its customers at rates about one-third of those charged by neighboring utilities. Fairport Electric has purchased power from the Power Authority of the State of New York since 1961.

Fairport is also the home of Constellation Brands, the largest wine company in the world.
