About Orofino - Orofino is a town located in Clearwater County, Idaho, along the Clearwater River. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 3,247.

Near present-day Orofino at Canoe Camp, the Lewis and Clark expedition built five new dugout canoes and embarked on October 7, 1805. Just four-miles north is the town is Dworshak Reservoir, Dworshak National Fish Hatchery, and the Dworshak Dam, third highest dam in the United States. Originally the name was two words, Oro Fino, for a creek nearby.

There were 1,279 housing units at an average density of 204.9/km˛ (531.4/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city was 93.93% White, 0.37% African American, 2.13% Native American, 0.59% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.99% from other races, and 1.91% from two or more races. 2.25% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 1,137 households out of which 28.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.1% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% were non-families. 27.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.83.
