- Acworth is a city located in Cobb County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 13,422.
Census estimates of 2004 indicate a very rapidly increasing population of 18,093.
Unincorporated areas considered Acworth for mailing purposes also extend into southeast Bartow County,
northeast Paulding County and southwest Cherokee County. Oddly, an area which is by far closest to Woodstock,
and is on the exact opposite side of Kennesaw from Acworth, is also wrongly considered "Acworth" by the USPS.
Incorporated in 1840 on December 1, the town was named by Western & Atlantic Railroad engineer Joseph L.
Gregg in 1843 for his hometown of Acworth, New Hampshire, which was in turn named for English nobleman Lord Acworth.
The city was known as Northcutt Station from 1840 - 1843, after the first railroad station master Alfred Northcutt,
and prior to that it was known as "Andersonville".
During the Civil War, the city was burned by the army of General W. T. Sherman in November 1864,
sparing only a few homes.
Acworth Beach is located on nearby Lake Allatoona.
Acworth's nickname is The Lake City.

living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.08.
In the city the population is spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 41.0% from 25 to 44,
15.7% from 45 to 64, and 7.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years.
For every 100 females there are 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $50,918, and the median income for a family is $55,163.
