About Novato - Novato is a city located in northern Marin County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 47,630.

The city is home to the Buck Institute for Age Research, Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, DriveSavers data recovery, as well as being the birthplace of Battlebots. Novato was the home of Broderbund software, but both the education and entertainment divisions moved to separate locations in San Francisco when they were subdivided and sold to Riverdeep and UbiSoft respectively by Gores Technology Group.

There are 18,524 households out of which 32.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.7% are married couples living together, 10.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% are non-families. 25.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 3.01.

In the city the population is spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 27.5% from 45 to 64, and 13.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 93.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $63,453, and the median income for a family is $74,434. Males have a median income of $55,822 versus $40,287 for females. The per capita income for the city is $32,402. 5.6% of the population and 3.1% of families are below the poverty line.
