About Mesa - Mesa is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona. It is the second largest city in the metropolitan area of Phoenix and the third largest city in Arizona, after Phoenix and Tucson.

It is the largest suburban city in the United States and second largest in North America after Mississauga, Ontario. The city was founded in January 1878. Modern Mesa was founded by Mormon pioneers and its population is still roughly one-fourth Mormon.
